SLC Corps Provides 550 Backpacks for Kids

Aug 12, 2023

The Salvation Army hosted their annual "Back-To-School Bash" on August 12 for families on the west side of Salt Lake City. The event provided 550 elementary school children in need with a backpack full of donated school supplies, a new winter coat and a new pair of shoes

Research shows that families can spend up to $200 on school supplies. The Salvation Army’s hope is that they can free low-income families from spending that money so they can use it to fulfill other essential needs. The backpacks were filled with notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, rulers, colored markers, pens, and pencil boxes.

“We hosted a back-to-school bash to give kids who need a head start, a positive step in the right direction,” said Captain James Combs from the Salvation Army Salt Lake City Corps. “When kids have the proper tools they need, success in school can be much easier to achieve.”

The backpacks and supplies were provided by private contributions and donations from Comcast and Security Services Federal Credit Union.
